Martha’s world

“Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her” Luke 10:38-42

We get busy with life. Most of us are living in Martha’s world. We need reminders- at least I do. On a sunny weekend at the beach I often see a plane flying along the coast line with a banner advertising an event or a beverage. I need to see such a banner with a sign reading “Never cease to pray” or “Delight yourself in His word”.

I learned to lean on the Lord in times of trouble and need. I learned to spend time reading the WORD. But still I have trouble being fully devoted to God when I have to work and take care of my family. I like using The One Year Bible which is divided into sections for a daily read. I keep it on my nightstand and try to read it every day. I find it comforting to know that there are many people around the world reading the same words every day. Even if I am not as diligent as I want to be with the time I want to spend with my God, I still know that he loves me.
