I am so sorry…

On a few occasions I wish I did not say anything instead of lousy condolences I had to offer. It is hard to express your feelings on a spot when you want to comfort a grieving or hurting friend. What are you to say?

We always need to be careful with our words, especially when expressing commiseration or support. It is possible with a misused phrase hurt instead of comfort. Have you ever been a recipient of a friend’s well-meant but harsh advise, something like:”It all shall pass” or “You will get over it”? When you are all wretched inside don’t you just want to scream:”Please be quiet! You are not helping here!”? I figured sometimes silence is worth it’s weight in gold. I mean when short of words just be quiet and offer love, support, hugs and a listening ear. Just being there is often enough.
