Fear or Just Being Human
“Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 13:13-14
I like reading my One Year Bible. For the past week I, along with thousands of other believers around the world who chose to read the same Bible, have been reading about Israelites’ captivity in Egypt. Coincidently the riots in Egypt were taking place at the same time- January of 2011… It made me think and focus even more on what I was reading in the Scripture.
As God’s chosen people were told by their God to leave Egypt and move to the promise land they became afraid. All of them, including Moses, finally obeyed, but were in doubt all along. Throughout this whole ordeal of moving the nation from one continent to the other people were listening and obeying, then complaining when things get tough. They were worshiping when they witness an amazing miracle only to forget about this spiritual experience and start doubting, fearing and complaining all over again.
When I do not feel like “Miss Spirituality”, when I do not feel the presence of God in my daily life I am reminded of the times long gone. I am not the first one to go back and forth in my spiritual connection. I am only human. But I know my Lord is near even if I am afraid and do not feel His divine presence. I can only pray to get back on my “holy wagon” and sing: “The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God and I will praise him…” Exodus 5:2
